How to Choose a Playpen Size: 47x47 to 79x71

Start with the floor, then take a foot off each side

Measure the clear floor where the playpen will stand, from the sofa to the TV stand and from the wall to the edge of the rug. Then take away about 12 inches on each side you need to walk past or reach into. That foot is the space for your feet when you lean in, for a drawer to open, for the vacuum to get round.

Say your living room gives you 90 by 80 inches of clear floor, with the sofa along one long side. Take a foot off the three open sides and you are left with 78 by 68 inches. A 79 by 71 playpen would touch the sofa and block the path. A 71 by 59 fits with room to spare.
